XDefiant servers are going offline today but it should only be for a short time (2024)

XDefiant launched just two weeks ago and is having its third bout of scheduled downtime today which should last no more than one hour.

Ubisoft is taking XDefiant servers offline for maintenance but we're not expecting any significant updates to roll out, with executive producer, Mark Rubin, saying a patch is on the way next week.

Update: Today's XDefiant maintenance saw next week's patch drop early, which means the sniper nerf is on the way next week instead of the week after.

Original story: XDefiant launched at the tail end of May, after missing its original summer 2023 launch and getting indefinitely delayed to give the extra development time it needed. We're currently in the XDefiant Preseason era which seems like a very convoluted way to rebrand an early access period. And while there have been matchmaking issues to tackle, on the plus side, players can scoop up free in-game rewards every week with the XDefiant Twitch Drops which are refreshed weekly throughout the six-week preseason.

It's had a single patch roll out since then, with another set to drop next week, according to executive producer, Mark Rubin, on Twitter, but there's going to be a period of scheduled maintenance today that will bring the XDefiant servers offline for around an hour, although that may be longer if things don't go smoothly.

XDefiant server maintenance schedule

XDefiant servers will go down at 2pm BST / 9am EDT / 6am PDT today, Tuesday, June 4 and are scheduled to back up and running at 3pm BST / 10am EDT / 7am PDT, as per a Twitter post from the @PlayXDefiant account. Given the comments from Rubin, it's unlikely that we're going to see patch notes after the fact, but hopefully, any lingering matchmaking issues will be ironed out.

Since the game was released a couple of weeks ago, we've had the preseason patch, which rolled out a few days after the launch, on Friday, May 24, and consisted mostly of fixes. We've popped the patch notes for that one below so you can catch up with the changes to the game so far. The downtime was estimated at an hour (via @UbisoftSupport Twitter account) with the servers going offline at 6am PDT / 9am PDT / 2pm BST and it was indeed around an hour, with the Twitter account chiming in again to say the update was live.

After that, XDefiant servers were offline for maintenance on Friday, May 31 with @UbisoftSupport giving the heads up that matchmaking would be unavailable during the maintenance window, starting at 9.30am BST / 4.30am EDT / 1.30am PDT. Expected downtime was an hour, and the account followed up around four hours later to say maintenance was finished, although there were plenty of disgruntled players in the replies saying they still couldn't connect. I wasn't playing at the time (being a working adult on a weekday) but it looks like XDefiant server maintenance could've spanned four hours – or Ubisoft was late to update everyone, and people were having unrelated matchmaking issues that they were airing.

Hopefully, today's maintenance will stick to the hour estimate and XDefiant servers will be down for just 60 minutes. In the meantime, looking at upcoming XDefiant patches, Rubin tweeted that next week's patch was "made day1 or so" and will drop early next week. However, the one we're interested in is coming the week after, and will roll out sniper rifle changes, bunny hopping and should fix hit reg issues.

XDefiant PreSeason patch 1 notes

Here are the patch notes for the XDefiant preseason patch from the Ubisoft website.

Game Modes

  • Sometimes players loading into the Practice Zone would spawn outside the world, in a hellscape, and now they (probably) will not.

Devices

  • Fixed an issue where if the player died during the device deployment animation, their next deployed device would drop at their feet rather than be thrown as intended.

Netcode

  • That issue where you'd get hitmarkers on an enemy as they killed you, but their health bar still appeared full to you? The health bar display was wrong - you did damage them. Should be fixed now.

Localisation

  • Fixed an issue where end-of-match UI text would display with the wrong orientation in Arabic.

Miscellaneous

  • We've turned the Practice Zone back on but it's possible weird things could still happen.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing low framerates with some AMD GPUs.

We'll have to wait a couple of weeks for the main bugbears to be addressed but we'll check back in next week to see what that patch has in store for us.
